According to Statistics Estonia, accommodation establishments served nearly 237,400 tourists in March 2024, which is 5% more than in March last year. The number of domestic tourists decreased a little, while the number of foreign tourists increased.

Russia’s aggression against Ukraine has forced millions of Ukrainians to flee their homes and homeland. Many of them have found a new home in Estonia. Ukrainian citizens and their family members who have come to Estonia because of the war can apply for temporary protection, which includes the right to work in the country. Commissioned by the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications, Statistics Estonia analyses the employment situation of Ukrainian refugees under temporary protection and the Ukrainian citizens staying in the country on other grounds

Robert Müürsepp, team lead of national accounts at Statistics Estonia, said that the improvement in Estonian economy continued in the first quarter of 2025. “Compared with the first quarter of 2024, the GDP increased by 1.2%. Compared with the fourth quarter of 2024, the seasonally and working-day adjusted GDP was up by 0.1%,” explained Müürsepp. Statistics Estonia will publish GDP data for the first quarter of 2025 on 30 May . According to Statistics Estonia, in the first quarter of 2024, there were 9,598 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia. This is 16.3% less than in the same quarter last year. A little under 6,500 persons left their job at the initiative of the employer.

The places where people live have been recorded in one way or another for centuries. Previously, the place of registration could have been a church, municipality government, city address board, housing board or the Population Register. In recent decades, developed countries have found that register data are usually more accurate than survey data, and so population censuses have also begun to use them. Back in 2011, eight European Union countries conducted the census on a register basis: in addition to the Nordic countries, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria and Slovenia.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 1st quarter of 2011, seven out of ten households in Estonia had Internet connection at home, most of them broadband connection. The percentage of households with Internet connection has slightly increased every year during the last five years.

According to Statistics Estonia, accommodation establishments in January served nearly 194,000 tourists, which is 1% fewer than in January last year. The number of domestic tourists decreased, while the number of foreign tourists increased.

According to Statistics Estonia, the data from the innovation survey show that 48% of enterprises covered with the survey were technologically innovative in 2008 and 35% of them had implemented during the last three years organisational or marketing innovation. For a quarter of enterprises the innovativeness resulted in environmental benefits either within enterprise or for customer.
