Changes to the questionnaire Wages and salaries and labour force (1462)

From 2023 onwards, there will be changes to the questionnaire “Wages and salaries and labour force” (1462). The changes are related to the increased use of register data in the production of wage statistics. The data collected with the questionnaire will be used to produce labour cost indices and job vacancy statistics. Previously (until the end of 2022), this questionnaire was also used to collect data for average wage statistics. The biggest change concerns data on part-time and full-time employees, which are no longer asked separately. With the modified questionnaire, the data are collected

According to Statistics Estonia, in the fourth quarter of 2021, there were 11,103 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia. This is 28% more than in the same quarter of 2020. About 7,500 persons left their jobs on the employer’s initiative.

The number of accommodated foreign tourists grew by a third in March

According to Statistics Estonia, nearly 226,000 tourists stayed in accommodation establishments in March 2023, which is 18% more than in March last year. The average cost of an overnight stay increased by 15% year on year.

The growth of industrial production was still slow in May

According to Statistics Estonia, in May 2022, the total production of industrial enterprises increased by 4.8% at constant prices compared to May 2021. Output increased in all three industrial sectors: by 2.2% in manufacturing, by 34.2% in electricity production and by 25.5% in mining.

Changes in the methodology of average wages and salaries (updated on 31.05.2023)

Since the first quarter of 2023, Statistics Estonia uses the data from the employment register of the Tax and Customs Board and the income and social tax declarations to publish the average wages and salaries. People working under employment contracts, the Civil Service Act*, and service contracts are included.

The growth in retail trade turnover slowed down in May

According to Statistics Estonia, in May, the turnover of retail trade enterprises was 920 million euros. Compared to May 2021, turnover increased by 2% at constant prices.
