Industrial production continued to fall in June

According to Statistics Estonia, in June 2023, the total production of industrial enterprises decreased by 12.6% at constant prices compared with a year earlier. Output declined in two of the three main sectors: by 29.2% in electricity production and by 12.4% in manufacturing. In mining, output increased by 1.6%.

In March, 14% more foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments than a year earlier

According to Statistics Estonia, accommodation establishments served nearly 237,400 tourists in March 2024, which is 5% more than in March last year. The number of domestic tourists decreased a little, while the number of foreign tourists increased.

Crop farming survey

What kind of survey is it? The crop farming survey provides data about areas under cultivation and harvested areas of agricultural crops, production and yield, fertilisers, organic farming, liming, seed use, and autumn sowings of winter crops. The producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, fell by 0.4% in June 2023 compared with May and by 1.9% compared with June last year.

Oil shale electricity production increased last year

According to Statistics Estonia, power plants produced 8,910 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity and 5,074 GWh of heat in 2022. Compared with the year before, electricity production increased by 21% and heat production by 8%.

Today, on 25 February, the Statistical Council held a meeting where they reviewed last year’s results and commended the production of official statistics, but the Council also acknowledged that the statistical system continues to be underfunded. The Council was briefed on the methodology approved by Statistics Estonia for the Population and Housing Census: namely, a register-based census, which is in accordance with EU regulations, combined with a sample survey to collect data on characteristics not covered by registers.

Retail trade turnover down by 7% in September

According to Statistics Estonia, in September, the turnover of retail trade enterprises was 869 million euros. Compared with September 2022, turnover decreased by 7% at constant prices.
