Lauri Veski, team lead of consumer price statistics at Statistics Estonia, said that the consumer price index in July was up by 0.6% compared with June and by 5.4% year on year. “The last time the year-on-year change in the index was this high was in July 2023, when it stood at 6.4%. Compared with July 2024, the index was affected the most by the 9.1% higher prices of food products. The year-on-year increase in healthcare costs (10.5%) is mainly due to the price lists of healthcare services, which were updated in April,” Veski said, adding that a year-on-year fall was registered in the prices
Life expectancy in Estonia is 79.5 years

“In 1994, the life expectancy of Estonian residents was 66.5 years, whereas by 2024 it had increased by 13 years and reached 79.5 years. In both Latvia and Lithuania, life expectancy has increased by about nine years in the same 30-year period. Life expectancy is currently 77.6 years in Lithuania and 75.6 years in Latvia,” explained Eveli Voolens, the social statistics team lead at Statistics Estonia. She added that Latvia has one of the lowest life expectancies in Europe. On the other hand, in Finland, life expectancy was already 76.7 years in 1994 and has now increased by 4.9 years to 81.6

The rise in exports was affected the most by an increase in the exportation of mineral products, and the rise in imports by non-recurring big-volume transactions with transport equipment.
