The first population and housing census in re-independent Estonia was carried out from 31 March to 9 April in 2000. According to Statistics Estonia, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Estonia grew 4.3% in 2019. In the 4th quarter of 2019, the GDP grew 3.9% compared to the same period of the previous year. The Estonian GDP was 28 billion euros at current prices.

Absolute poverty means that a person’s income is below the absolute poverty threshold. The threshold is calculated on the basis of equivalised disposable income that takes into account the composition of the household (the weight of the first adult member is 1, the weight of each additional member aged at least 14 years is 0.7 and the weight of everyone under 14 years of age is 0.5), i.e. the total household income is divided by the sum of equivalence scales of household members. Until Sunday 25 March (inclusive), all those people who have not participated in the census and have not been contacted by an enumerator yet can notify Statistics Estonia and have an enumerator sent to their place of residence. By Friday, more than 1,000 people had notified Statistics Estonia.

According to Statistics Estonia, nearly 274,000 tourists stayed in accommodation establishments in September 2023, which is 5% more than in September last year but 36% less than in August this year. Compared with September 2022, there were more foreign as well as more domestic tourists served by accommodation establishments.
