The 11th Population and Housing Census in Estonia ended at midnight on 31 March. The preliminary results will be published by 31 May the latest. The next census will be conducted in Estonia in 2021.

Today, on 20 October the World Statistics Day is celebrated for the first time under the auspices of the United Nations. Statistics Estonia organises a conference “Estonian Statistics in Focus” for this occasion.

According to Statistics Estonia, in March 2020, compared to March 2019, the exports of goods decreased by 1% and imports by 2%. Compared to the first quarter of 2019, exports declined by 3% and imports by 4%. In the first quarter, trade decreased mostly due to declined exports and imports of electrical equipment and mineral products.

Jane Leppmets, foreign trade analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that, in July, exports of goods grew primarily due to re-exports, i.e., the re-exports of previously imported goods increased by 26%. “The re-exports of mineral products (incl. natural gas) and transport equipment rose the most,” the analyst added. Exports of goods of Estonian origin fell by 1%. Goods of Estonian origin accounted for 59% of total exports in July, and their share decreased by six percentage points year on year. Eurostat published the report of the Peer Review of the Estonian statistical system. In the report, the Estonian Statistical System was concluded to be of high quality. However, the Peer Review team also identified areas where improvements should be made.
