Data from Statistics Estonia show that the most popular online services used by the population in Estonia are banking and email. Compared with 2023, the number of social media users has increased – up by 5.7% in 2024.

According to Statistics Estonia, in April 2024, the total production of industrial enterprises fell by 4.7% compared with April last year. Among the three main sectors, output increased by 3.6% in mining and by 10.1% in electricity production but decreased by 5.7% in manufacturing.

According to Statistics Estonia, 27,989 women and 3,920 men received parental benefit in Estonia in 2019. The average monthly parental benefit paid to men was a third higher than that paid to women.

Sigrid Saagpakk, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that a smart TV is the most common Internet of Things device in Estonia, used by 57% of internet users. “The second most popular group of devices includes smart watches, wireless headsets and GPS devices, which are used by over a half (53%) of the respondents. Internet-connected home audio systems and smart speakers are also fairly common (28%),” added Saagpakk. According to Statistics Estonia, in 2023, the gross hourly earnings of female employees were 13.1% smaller than the earnings of male employees. The gender pay gap decreased by 4.6 percentage points year on year.

According to the Farm Structure Survey conducted by Statistics Estonia, the number of agricultural holdings in Estonia has decreased by 6%, i.e. by 700, in three years. The average size of agricultural area has risen to 91 hectares, which is one of the highest values in the European Union (EU) after Czechia and Slovakia.

According to Statistics Estonia, in June 2023, the total production of industrial enterprises decreased by 12.6% at constant prices compared with a year earlier. Output declined in two of the three main sectors: by 29.2% in electricity production and by 12.4% in manufacturing. In mining, output increased by 1.6%.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the first quarter of 2024, the total production value of construction enterprises in Estonia and abroad decreased by 13% compared with the same quarter a year earlier. On the domestic construction market, volume fell by 14%.

Lauri Veski, team lead of consumer price statistics at Statistics Estonia, said that, compared with October 2023, the consumer price index was affected the most by price changes related to food and non-alcoholic beverages, recreation, and phone services. “Among food products, the higher prices of non-alcoholic beverages (+20.4%), fruits (+12.4%) and vegetables (+5.5%) drove up the index the most compared with October last year.
