Gender-based information and earnings projections added to Statistics Estonia’s application

The earnings application, first published more than a year ago, was upgraded by Statistics Estonia together with the Commissioner for Equal Opportunities, University of Tartu, Tallinn University of Technology and the Social Insurance Board. More occupational groups, comparison of males’ and females’ monthly earnings, and earnings and pension projections were added to the application.

Number of tourists in accommodation establishments did not increase significantly in September

Helga Laurmaa, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the number of accommodated tourists was still 6% lower than in September 2019. The number of foreign tourists in accommodation establishments was down by 20%, whereas the number of domestic tourists was 19% higher than in September of the record year before the crisis. “153,000 foreign and 125,000 domestic tourists were accommodated in Estonia in September 2024. According to Statistics Estonia, in 2008 the growth of wages and salaries slowed down but the increased pensions and governmental benefits helped to maintain incomes. Therefore the relative poverty remained on the level of 2007.

Population increased but births continued to fall

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, on 1 January 2021, the population of Estonia was 1,329,460 persons, which is 480 persons more than at the same time a year ago. Population decreased by 2,590 persons due to negative natural increase and increased by 3,070 persons as a result of positive net migration.

The rise in retail trade volume slowed down in July

Johanna Linda Pihlak, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that while turnover volume in June increased by 5% year on year, growth slowed down to 1% in July. “Year on year, turnover volume grew by 10% in enterprises engaged in the retail sale of automotive fuel and by 3% in stores selling manufactured goods. The turnover volume of grocery stores continued to decline in July, falling by 5% compared with July 2024,” Pihlak added.
