According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2009 exports of goods from Estonia amounted to 101.3 billion kroons at current prices and imports to Estonia made up 114.2 billion kroons. The foreign trade deficit amounted to 12.9 billion kroons, which was smaller last in 1995.

According to the data of the 2011 Population and Housing Census (PHC 2011) of Statistics Estonia, 67% of persons employed in Estonia worked in service sector, 29% in industrial sector and only 4% in primary sector.

According to Statistics Estonia, in February exports of goods from Estonia at current prices totalled 7.9 billion kroons and imports to Estonia 8.9 billion kroons. Compared to February of the previous year, exports declined by 26% and imports by 35%. The decrease was caused by a significant decline in the trade concerning machinery and equipment and transport equipment.

According to Statistics Estonia, in February 2014, both the exports and imports of goods decreased by 4% at current prices compared to February 2013. The decrease in exports and imports was mostly influenced by a fall in the trade of electrical equipment.

Robert Müürsepp, the national accounts team lead at Statistics Estonia, said that there was modest economic growth in the second quarter of 2025. Sigrid Saagpakk, analyst at Statistics Estonia, stated that the total number of vacant and occupied posts in the first quarter was a little over 594,000. “The number of vacant posts was the highest in education (1,274) and in public administration and defence (1,254). The number of occupied posts, however, was the greatest in manufacturing (97,736),” she said.
