In the international phase of the European Statistics competition, students had to make a video using official statistics to introduce their country. In the senior age group, the winner was team Radiaator from Hugo Treffner Gymnasium. The team members were Toomas Roosma, Kertu Liisa Lepik and Paul Erik Olli, supervised by Kerli Orav-Puurand.

Ülo Paulus, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that in the first quarter of this year, compared with the same period in 2024, the construction price index was primarily influenced by the 2.9% increase in employees’ wages, which accounted for 54% of the index change. “Compared with the fourth quarter of last year, labour force was 0.6% more expensive and the cost of using building machines rose by 0.3%, while the prices of building materials were down by 0.2%,” explained Paulus. The producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, increased by 0.4% in July 2024 compared with June and by 0.8% compared with July last year.

According to the results of the register-based population and housing census of 2021, there are 341,995 families in Estonia, of which almost half, or 49%, are two-member families. Johanna Linda Pihlak, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the decline in the volume of retail trade turnover in September was mainly due to stores selling manufactured goods, as their turnover volume decreased by 6% year on year. “Among stores selling manufactured goods, the biggest decline at 10% was registered in the turnover volume of other specialised stores selling predominantly computers and their accessories, books, sports equipment, games, toys, etc., and also in the turnover volume of stores selling household goods and appliances, hardware and building materials,” added Pihlak

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2017, the number of passengers served by Estonian transport enterprises remained at the same level compared to the previous year. Carriage of goods decreased in road transport, but increased in rail transport.
