According to Statistics Estonia, 27,989 women and 3,920 men received parental benefit in Estonia in 2019. The average monthly parental benefit paid to men was a third higher than that paid to women.

According to Statistics Estonia, in May, the consumer price index increased by 0.1% compared with April and by 2.9% compared with May 2023. Goods were 2.6% and services 3.3% more expensive than in May last year.

According to Statistics Estonia, in September 2023, the total production of industrial enterprises decreased by 12.5% at constant prices compared with the corresponding month of 2022. Output fell in two sectors: by 37.6% in electricity production and by 10.9% in manufacturing. In mining, output remained almost at the same level, as the decrease was just 0.3% year on year.

According to Statistics Estonia and Eesti Pank, in the first quarter of 2022, Estonia’s exports of services grew by 22% while imports of services fell by 10% year on year. In the first quarter of this year, Estonia’s exports of services totalled 2 billion euros and imports of services 1.5 billion euros.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2016, the number of passengers served by Estonian transport enterprises decreased by 3% and the freight volume in tonnes decreased by 1% compared to the previous year. The number of passengers increased in sea and rail transport, but decreased in road and air transport. Carriage of goods increased in road transport, but decreased in rail transport.

According to the preliminary* data of Statistics Estonia, in 2023, the Estonian general government deficit was 3.4% and the debt level was 19.6% of the gross domestic product (GDP). At the end of last year, the total expenditures of the general government exceeded revenues by 1.3 billion euros.

Jane Leppmets, foreign trade analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the most significant changes in April concerned extra-EU trade. “Exports to EU countries were up by 8% and imports from the EU fell by 1%. In trade with non-EU countries, exports declined by 10% while imports grew by 16%. According to Statistics Estonia, in 2021, the average monthly parental benefit was 1,205 euros for women and 1,463 euros for men. Last year, a total of 38,882 persons received parental benefit and a third of them were men.
