Researchers and officials have a special interest to find out through the census how many people living in Estonia have two nationalities and speak two mother tongues. Although information on nationality and mother tongue is also available in the population register, it is the first time that it is possible to choose two options in the census questionnaire.

According to Statistics Estonia’s Tourism Survey*, Estonian residents made more trips in the first half of 2023 than in the same period of 2022. Finland and Latvia are the most popular destinations, and many trips are also made to Italy and Turkey.

Johanna Linda Pihlak, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the rise in retail trade volume in June was influenced by stores selling manufactured goods and by enterprises engaged in the retail sale of automotive fuel – the turnover volume of each was up by 12% year on year. “However, the turnover volume of grocery stores continued to decline, falling by 4% compared with June last year,” Pihlak added.
