Lauri Veski, team lead of consumer price statistics at Statistics Estonia, said that the consumer price index for the summer months exceeded the 5% mark every month compared with the previous year, reaching 6.1% in August. According to Veski, the last time the year-on-year change in the consumer price index was higher was in July 2023, when it stood at 6.4%. “Compared with August last year, the rise in the consumer price index was primarily driven by food prices, which were up by 9.2%. Jane Leppmets, foreign trade analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that both exports and imports of goods increased in March, as in the first two months of the year. “Exports of goods grew in all commodity sections. The rise in exports was influenced by an even larger increase in re-exports, which rose by 27% year on year. During the last five years the share of electricity generated from oil shale has decreased by nearly a tenth. At the same time the electricity production from renewable sources has increased eight times.
