According to Statistics Estonia, 22.6% of the Estonian population lived at risk of poverty in 2017.  The percentage of people at risk of poverty increased 1.6 percentage points compared to the previous year.

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, on 1 January 2022, the population of Estonia was 1,328,439, which is 1,629 persons less than at the same time a year ago. In 2021, there were 13,138 births and 18,445 deaths in Estonia. Based on the data on registered migration, 12,280 persons immigrated to Estonia and 8,602 persons emigrated from Estonia.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2021, life expectancy at birth was 77.2 years in Estonia. Male life expectancy was 72.8 years and female life expectancy was 81.4 years. Life expectancy has decreased for both men and women. Men can expect to live disability-free for 54.9 years and women for 58 years.

The big Estonian population e-census, which begins at the end of the year, is largely based on register data. For reliable census results, all Estonian residents are invited in the next few months to check and, if necessary, correct population register data concerning their education, ethnicity, place of residence and contacts.

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2021, the total construction volume of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and abroad increased by 9% year on year. Considering only the Estonian construction market, the rise in construction volume was 10%.

From 1782 to 1858, 7 countings of the population were organized which could be considered forerunners of modern population censuses. The Statistical Committees, established in Estonia and Livonia in 1863, considered it necessary to conduct censuses according to the principles laid down at international conferences on Statistics. The first population census organized on the basis of these principles took place in the towns of Livonia on 3 March 1867. In the Estonian territory 5 towns were included: Pärnu, Tartu, Valga, Viljandi and Võru. At that time those towns were part of the Livonian
