According to Statistics Estonia, in 2018, life expectancy at birth was 73.9 years for males and 82.4 years for females. Life expectancy has increased for both sexes, slightly more for males. Men are expected to live disability-free for 52.8 and women for 55.6 years. Just a year ago, disability-free life expectancy for males was two years longer and for females over three years longer.

The first-ever relationship survey*, conducted by Statistics Estonia, points to several areas of concern in Estonian people's intimate relationships. Among other things, the results of the survey revealed that both women and men suffer physical, psychological, and sexual violence most often in couple relationships.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 3rd quarter of 2017, the employment rate was 68.3%, the unemployment rate 5.2% and the labour force participation rate 72%. Compared to the 3rd quarter of 2016, the unemployment rate fell and the employment rate reached its highest level for 20 years.

According to Statistics Estonia’s population projection, in 2080, there will be approximately 1.2 million people in Estonia. Over the next 60 years, the population of Estonia will decrease by 11%, in the next 25 years, by 35,800 persons, and by 2080, by 145,200 persons.

According to Statistics Estonia’s projection, if the current demographic trends continue, the population of Estonia will decrease by 125,000 in the next roughly 30 years due to negative natural increase and negative net migration. Thus, the projected population of Estonia in 2040 will be 1,195,000.

Museums continue to be popular in Estonia. According to Statistics Estonia, there were 3.5 million museum visits in 2016, which is 6% more than the year before.
