Gender-based information and earnings projections added to Statistics Estonia’s application

The earnings application, first published more than a year ago, was upgraded by Statistics Estonia together with the Commissioner for Equal Opportunities, University of Tartu, Tallinn University of Technology and the Social Insurance Board. More occupational groups, comparison of males’ and females’ monthly earnings, and earnings and pension projections were added to the application.

From 2023 onwards, there will be changes to the questionnaire “Wages and salaries and labour force” (1462). The changes are related to the increased use of register data in the production of wage statistics. The data collected with the questionnaire will be used to produce labour cost indices and job vacancy statistics. Previously (until the end of 2022), this questionnaire was also used to collect data for average wage statistics. Secure data interoperability Statistics Estonia received 1,099,300 euros via the innovation fund for the project “Secure data interoperability between sectors”. The innovation fund is administered by the Government Office of Estonia, and its activities and projects are funded under the European Union Cohesion Policy 2021–2027 measure “Development of innovation capacities in the public sector”. According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, on 1 January 2024, the population of Estonia was 1,366,491, which is 607 persons more than at the same time a year ago. In 2023, there were 10,721 births and 15,832 deaths in Estonia. Based on the data on registered migration, 20,209 persons immigrated to Estonia and 14,491 persons emigrated from Estonia. Compared with a year earlier, the number of births, deaths and immigrants has fallen, while the number of emigrants has risen.

Producer price index of industrial output continues to rise

In May 2022, the producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, increased by 3.1% compared to April 2022 and by 33.7% compared to May 2021.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the first quarter of 2020, the labour force participation rate in Estonia was 71.7%, the employment rate was 68.1%, and the unemployment rate was 5%. These indicators do not yet reflect the negative impact of the emergency situation on the Estonian labour market.

The interactive charts provide an overview of the situation of enterprises on the basis of VAT returns. Today, Statistics Estonia is launching the largest and most comprehensive relationship survey in Estonia so far, titled “Safe relationships within family, at work and outside work”. The purpose of the survey is to get an overview of well-being and safety in relationships. An invitation to participate in the survey is sent by post to over 16,000 people.
