Today, Statistics Estonia met with technology experts and analysts to present the technical solution of the Register-based Population and Housing Census and its opportunities.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the fourth quarter of 2023, the gross domestic product (GDP) decreased by 2.7% compared with the same period of 2022. The GDP at current prices was 9.9 billion euros in the fourth quarter. In 2023 as a whole, Estonia’s GDP decreased by 3% and amounted to 37.7 billion euros at current prices.

Lauri Veski, team lead of consumer price statistics at Statistics Estonia, said that the biggest impact on the consumer price index in 2024 came from price increases related to food and non-alcoholic beverages, which accounted for 23.7% of the total index rise. The prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 3.2% last year. “Among food products, the biggest rise occurred in the prices of olive oil (44%) and juices and syrups (36.7%). In July 2021, the producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, increased by 4.0% compared to June 2021 and by 14.8% compared to July 2020.

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2022, the Estonian general government deficit was 1% and the debt level was 18% of the gross domestic product (GDP). At the end of last year, the total expenditures of the general government exceeded revenues by 335 million euros.

Statistics Estonia’s wages and salaries application now includes wages data for the first quarter of 2020. Also, median wages for 11 more groups of occupations were added.
