Statistics Estonia has begun preparations for conducting the register-based Population and Housing Census (REGREL) of 2020. Next year’s Census will be the last where the entire population is interviewed.

Today, on 16 October, Statistics Estonia holds the opening seminar of the “Increased availability of gender pay gap statistics” project at Swissôtel in Tallinn. It is a subproject of the “Promoting gender equality and work and family life balance” programme of Norway Grants in the period 2009–2014.

According to preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2009 the total production of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and in foreign countries amounted to 23.5 billion kroons, which is 28% less than a year earlier. The construction volumes which had started to decline in 2008 kept decreasing last year, too.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2013, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 949 euros and the average hourly gross wages and salaries were 5.73 euros. Compared to 2012, the average monthly gross wages and salaries increased 7.0% and the average hourly gross wages and salaries increased 7.3%.

278,000 foreign and approximately 224,000 domestic tourists were accommodated in Estonia in July. “As in July last year, we had more foreign tourists (55%) than domestic tourists (45%) accommodated in this year’s July,” said Helga Laurmaa, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia. Epp Remmelg, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the at-risk-of-poverty rate reflects income inequality in a country. “People at risk of poverty are not living in outright deprivation, but they cannot afford the standard of living that is considered normal in society,” the analyst noted.
