Eveli Šokman, team lead of producer price statistics at Statistics Estonia, said that, compared with September 2023, the producer price index was most affected by price decreases in electricity and heat energy production and in the manufacture of fuel oils. “Rising prices in the manufacture of wood and wood products, repair of machinery and equipment, and manufacture of electronic equipment had the opposite effect on the index. According to Statistics Estonia, in April 2024, exports of goods increased by 3% and imports by 6% compared with April 2023. Exports of goods amounted to more than €1.5 billion and imports to over €1.8 billion at current prices. The trade deficit was €305 million, which is €65 million more than in April last year.

According to Statistics Estonia and Eesti Pank, in the first quarter of 2024, Estonia’s exports of services grew by 2%, while imports were unchanged from the same period last year. Sales of services to non-residents totalled €2.8 billion and purchases of services from non-residents amounted to €2.2 billion at current prices. The balance of foreign trade in services was in surplus by €595 million, which is €45 million more than a year earlier.

The producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, increased by 0.4% in July 2024 compared with June and by 0.8% compared with July last year.

According to Statistics Estonia, in August, the consumer price index increased by 0.4% compared with July and by 3.2% compared with August 2023. Goods were 1.4% and services 6.3% more expensive than in August last year.
