Johanna Linda Pihlak, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the biggest increase was registered in enterprises engaged in the retail sale of automotive fuel, where turnover volume increased by 14% last year. “The volume of turnover was up by 4% in stores selling manufactured goods but decreased by 4% in grocery stores,” added Pihlak. According to the second estimates of Statistics Estonia, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Estonia increased by 3.6% in the 1st quarter of 2012 compared to the same quarter in the previous year. The GDP growth decelerated for the second quarter in succession.

Riin Kadarik, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the volume of manufacturing production increased for the third month in a row. “This has mainly resulted from increased output in the manufacture of wood and fabricated metal products, which are some of the largest activities in the manufacturing sector,” added Kadarik. Looking at the major industries, output increased by 5.3% in the manufacture of wood, by 7.8% in the manufacture of fabricated metal products, by 3.5% in the manufacture of computers and electronic products and by 7.5% in the manufacture of electrical equipment

70% of the residents of Estonia are expecting the answer about the real population number of the country from the Population and Housing Census which will begin at the end of the year, appears from the survey conducted by the research agency Factum & Ariko in October. 95% of the persons questioned consider the Census essential for Estonia.
