On Monday, 7 November, the Estonian Debating Society and Statistics Estonia will launch a series of debates, called “Estonia’s Most Important Debate”, focussing on population issues. During the week, researchers and politicians will debate with young people in six different locations in Estonia.

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, the surplus in trade was registered in February, when exports of goods exceeded imports by 0.2 billion kroons. The surplus was last registered in trade in June 1993.

Today, on 9 March, Statistics Estonia launches the Household Budget Survey of 2015, which collects data from households on their everyday expenditure and consumption. The previous survey was conducted in 2012.

According to Statistics Estonia, by flash estimates, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Estonia decreased by 15.3% in Estonia in the 3rd quarter of 2009 compared to the same quarter in the previous year.

Evelin Puura, the foreign trade statistics team lead at Statistics Estonia, said that trade in August was affected by the continued decline in exports and imports in trade with European Union (EU) countries. “Compared with August 2023, exports to EU countries decreased by 3% and imports from EU countries by 8%. At the same time, extra-EU exports were up by 6%,” noted Puura. The main commodities exported in August were electrical equipment (16% of Estonia’s total exports), agricultural products and food preparations (11%), and wood and articles of wood (11%). According to Statistics Estonia, in 2012 the production of electricity totalled nearly 12 TWh, which is 7% less than in 2011. The electricity production from renewable sources has increased by about a fourth.

Today, 31 January is the last day when people can participate online in the current Population and Housing Census. As of 06:00 on 31 January, already 56% of the estimated population of Estonia has participated in the e-census.

On 12 and 13 November, the conference "Demographic Processes in the Baltic Sea Region in the 21st Century", organised by Statistics Estonia and the Estonian Statistical Society, takes place at the National Library of Estonia.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 1st quarter of 2013, over half a million foreign and domestic tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, which was 5% more than in the same period of the previous year. The number of both foreign and domestic tourists increased.

According to preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2010 the total profit of business sector was 2.0 billion euros (30.9 billion kroons), being about two times bigger than in the previous year. At the same time the total profit decreased more than a fifth compared to 2008 and about 40% compared to the record high 2007.
