According to Statistics Estonia, in 2023, the gross hourly earnings of female employees were 13.1% smaller than the earnings of male employees. The gender pay gap decreased by 4.6 percentage points year on year.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the fourth quarter of 2023, there were 9,199 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia. This is 18.5% less than in the same quarter last year. A little over 7,000 persons left their job at the initiative of the employer.

According to Statistics Estonia, the unemployment rate was 7.5% and the employment rate was 66.5% in the 3rd quarter of 2016. The labour force participation rate increased by 1 percentage point compared to the same quarter of the previous year and the number of inactive working-age people is on a downtrend.

The earnings application, first published more than a year ago, was upgraded by Statistics Estonia together with the Commissioner for Equal Opportunities, University of Tartu, Tallinn University of Technology and the Social Insurance Board. More occupational groups, comparison of males’ and females’ monthly earnings, and earnings and pension projections were added to the application.

Statistics Estonia, commissioned by the Education and Youth Board, analysed for the fifth time the economic contribution of working international students and international graduates. Although the number of international degree students in Estonia was down from the previous years, international students paid 16.6 million euros in income and social tax in the academic year 2022/23, and graduates from the year before contributed 6.9 million euros. For students, this is 2.5 million euros more than in the previous academic year, while for graduates it is 1.5 million euros less.

According to Statistics Estonia, the average gross monthly wages and salaries in the first quarter of 2023 were 1,741 euros, which is 13.3% higher than at the same time last year. The median wages, however, were 1,424 euros. The average real wages in the first quarter of 2023 were 1,443 euros, 3.2% lower than last year.
