Producer price index of industrial output rose by 1.4% in April year on year
The producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, decreased by 1.0% in April 2025 compared with March and increased by 1.4% compared with April last year.
Eveli Šokman, team lead of producer price statistics at Statistics Estonia, said that, compared with April 2024, the producer price index was most affected by price increases in the manufacture of wood and wood products, in electricity and heat energy production, and in the manufacture of food products. “Falling prices in the manufacture of fuel oils and paper and paper products had the opposite effect on the index. Producer prices increased by 1.0% in manufacturing as a whole and by 3.0% in the manufacture of food products,” Šokman added.
Compared with March, the producer price index in April was mainly affected by price decreases in electricity production and in the manufacture of fuel oils. The index was also influenced by rising prices in the manufacture of wood and wood products and in the repair of machinery and equipment.
In April, the export price index was down by 0.9% compared with March. The biggest price decreases were recorded for electricity, mining and quarrying, and petroleum products. Prices increased the most for agricultural products, furniture, and rubber and plastic products. Compared with April 2024, the export price index was up by 3.3%.
The import price index fell by 1.0% in April compared with March. The greatest decreases were registered in the prices of electricity, agricultural products, and petroleum products. Prices increased the most for building materials, paper and paper products, and wood products. Compared with April 2024, the import price index was up by 2.5%.
Statistics Estonia collects and analyses data for the producer price index of industrial output, export price index and import price index for the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications, to understand how the Estonian economy is doing.
