According to Statistics Estonia, in August, the consumer price index increased by 0.4% compared with July and by 3.2% compared with August 2023. Goods were 1.4% and services 6.3% more expensive than in August last year.

Viktoria Trasanov, team lead of consumer price statistics at Statistics Estonia, said that, compared with August 2023, the consumer price index was affected the most by price changes related to food and non-alcoholic beverages and miscellaneous goods and services. “Among these, personal care products were 7.1% and beauty and personal care services 13.2% more expensive,” added Trasanov.

Of food products, the biggest increases compared with August last year occurred in the prices of juices and syrups (54.6%), olive oil (44%) and cocoa (22.9%). On the other hand, there was a decrease in the prices of processed fruits (-10.4%) and sugar (-19.5%). In August, petrol was 5.4% and diesel fuel 6.9% cheaper than in the same month last year.
