According to Statistics Estonia, in March 2016, exports of goods decreased by 3% and imports by 1% compared to March of the previous year. In the 1st quarter exports decreased 2% and imports increased 1%.

Due to the still high percentage of small holdings, the number of persons involved in agriculture is near to 60,000.
