From 2025 onwards, Statistics Estonia will no longer update short-term labour market statistics. The publication of short-term labour market statistics was based on a commissioning contract and the contract expired in 2024. Interactive charts give an overview of the labour market in Estonia based on the data of the employment register. They show changes in the number of employment relationships: how many were started, suspended or terminated. There is also a time series of the changes in these indicators. Growth in life expectancy has slowed down, but Estonian people live a longer healthy life

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2020, life expectancy at birth for Estonian inhabitants was 78.8 years. Male life expectancy was 74.4 years and female life expectancy was 82.8 years for the second year in a row. Men are expected to live disability-free for 55.5 years and women for 59.5 years.

This is the second time that Estonia has participated in the survey.

Number of foreign tourists in accommodation establishments increased

According to Statistics Estonia, in August 2022, Estonian accommodation establishments served nearly 420,000 tourists, which is 23% more than in August last year. The number of foreign tourists* increased and the number of domestic tourists fell.

Robert Müürsepp, team lead of national accounts at Statistics Estonia, said that the preliminary estimate shows signs of improvement in the Estonian economy in the fourth quarter of last year. “There was no more major recession, as the seasonally and working-day adjusted GDP remained unchanged from the third quarter of 2024. Compared with the fourth quarter of 2023, the economy contracted only slightly,” noted Müürsepp. Statistics Estonia will publish GDP data for the fourth quarter of 2024 on 3 March . Record number of domestic tourists accommodated in 2022

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2022, Estonian accommodation establishments served over 3 million tourists, which is 52% more than in 2021. There was a rise in the number of both foreign* and domestic tourists.
