Exports is the exportation of goods produced in Estonia and exportation of goods imported from a foreign country. It includes temporary exportation of goods for the purpose of processing abroad, re-exportation after processing in Estonia and supplies for foreign vessels and aircraft. Exports does not include transit and services. Data on exports to EU countries are based on Intrastat questionnaires collected by Statistics Estonia, supplemented with estimates and administrative data. According to Statistics Estonia, in March 2023, Estonia’s exports and imports of goods decreased by 15% and 12%, respectively, compared with March 2022. In the first quarter as a whole, both exports and imports of goods fell by 8%.

Foreign trade in goods showed signs of picking up in April

According to Statistics Estonia, in April 2024, exports of goods increased by 3% and imports by 6% compared with April 2023. Exports of goods amounted to more than €1.5 billion and imports to over €1.8 billion at current prices. The trade deficit was €305 million, which is €65 million more than in April last year.

Estonia’s exports of services greatly exceeded imports of services

According to Statistics Estonia and Eesti Pank, in the fourth quarter of 2021, Estonia’s exports of services grew by 79% while imports of services fell by 23% year on year. In 2021 as a whole, exports of services grew by 47% and imports by 28% compared to 2020.

Internet use is increasing in Estonia

According to Statistics Estonia*, 93.2% of households in Estonia have an internet connection at home. The number of households with an internet connection has increased by 13,000 compared with the previous year, when there were 533,300 such households. There are also more users of e-commerce.
