Retail trade volume down by 3% last year

Johanna Linda Pihlak, analyst at Statistics Estonia, noted that the biggest decline at 4% was registered in the turnover volume of stores selling manufactured goods. In grocery stores, the volume of turnover was down by 3%. “However, the turnover volume of enterprises engaged in the retail sale of automotive fuel increased by 2% last year,” added Pihlak. According to Statistics Estonia, in July 2023, the total production of industrial enterprises decreased by 9.5% at constant prices compared with the year before. Output declined in all three main sectors: by 33.6% in electricity production, by 7.0% manufacturing, and by 20.7% mining.

According to Statistics Estonia, in February 2024, the total production of industrial enterprises decreased by 5.7% at constant prices compared with the corresponding month a year earlier. Production increased by 19.3% in mining and by 2.6% in electricity production but decreased by 7% in manufacturing.
