According to Statistics Estonia's survey on information technology, the use of artificial intelligence-based technologies has risen significantly in 2024 compared with the previous year, and cyber security has become increasingly important. 5% of enterprises used at least one AI technology in 2023, whereas in 2024, this figure has risen to 14%. Of large enterprises, 10% said they had experienced a disclosure of confidential data.

In the second quarter, the prices of apartments rose by 4.5% and the prices of houses by 7.8% compared with the second quarter last year. Today, Statistics Estonia presented at a press conference a comparative survey of household and place of residence data. The survey, taking place from May until October, is conducted to test the quality of the methodology of the register-based population and housing census. 30,000 persons will be surveyed.

The recommendation of Statistics Estonia is to complete the e-census now, instead on waiting until the end of January when the system load will be higher and could make the enumeration process slower. In the first two weeks, more than 310,000 persons have already been enumerated in the e-census.

Census data show that 58% of the population was employed at the end of 2021, which is 6 percentage points more than 10 years ago. The increase is mainly due to persons of retirement age, but also slightly to the unemployed and students.
