According to Statistics Estonia, in August 2026, the total production of industrial enterprises increased by 4.5% at constant prices compared with August last year. Output increased in all three industrial sectors: by 25.3% in mining, by 56.9% in energy production and by 1.2% in manufacturing.

Riin Kadarik, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that, similarly to July, manufacturing output continued to grow in August, despite the decline in production volumes in the two largest manufacturing activities. “Output decreased by 0.6% in the manufacture of wood and by 3.8% in the manufacture of food products, which was mainly due to the decreased production of dairy products. The biggest contributor to the growth in manufacturing production was the manufacture of electrical equipment where output was up by 12.2% year on year, supported by increased production in the manufacture of electric motors, generators and transformers,” said Kadarik.

In July, production volumes increased in two thirds of the manufacturing activities. In August, however, output grew in less than half of the manufacturing activities. There were five economic activities with a significant increase in output – in addition to the manufacture of electrical equipment, production volumes increased notably in the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. (19.7%), coke and refined petroleum products (20.4%), fabricated metal products (6.9%) and motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (19.1%). Looking at the major industries, in addition to the manufacture of wood and food products, output also declined by 2.1% in the manufacture of computers, electronic and optical products.

In August, 66.2% of the total production of manufacturing was sold to the external market. This share was a little lower in July.

Compared with August 2025, the sales of manufacturing production increased by 6.4% at current prices according to working-day adjusted data. Domestic sales increased by 3.7% and export sales by 8%.

In August compared with July, the seasonally adjusted total industrial production grew by 4.2% and the production of manufacturing by 2.6%.

The output of the energy sector was up by 56.9% in August at constant prices. Based on the volume of production (in megawatt-hours), electricity production increased by 43.3% and heat production by 46.5% year on year. “Electricity production was boosted by the significant increase in wind and solar energy production. Also, electricity exports were much higher. The substantial year-on-year increase was also due to the fact that electricity production in August last year was lower than usual,” added Kadarik.

The increase in mining output was driven by the greater extraction of oil shale and stone, sand and clay.

Volume index of industrial production – an index that expresses the change in the volume of industrial production at constant prices compared with the base period. The producer price index is used for calculating the production values at constant prices.

Value index of industrial sales – an index that expresses the change in the value of sold industrial production at current prices compared with the base period.

Industry is the largest sector of the economy and an important driver of economic growth. The index of industrial production covers the economic indicators of three industrial activities: mining, energy production, and manufacturing.

In Estonia, the data on industrial production are used by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications, the Ministry of Finance, banks, research institutions, enterprises, the media and industry associations. These statistics are required for assessing the developments in industrial sectors and in the economy as a whole, and for policymaking and economic forecasting.

Data as at 5 October 2026 are published. The indicator values may change if there are any revisions made in the data sources after this date.

Information about various industrial activities can be found on the business dashboards. See also the industry section on our website. More detailed data have been published in the statistical database.
