Johanna Linda Pihlak, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the turnover volume of retail trade enterprises started to decline in May, after a period of growth since the beginning of the year. “This was due to stores selling manufactured goods where the volume of turnover was down by 5% year on year. The turnover volume of stores selling manufactured goods had not fallen since November 2025,” explained Pihlak. “The turnover volume of grocery stores did not start to rise in May – it remained at the same level as in May last year,” added Pihlak. According to Statistics Estonia, in August, the consumer price index increased by 0.4% compared with July and by 3.2% compared with August 2023. Goods were 1.4% and services 6.3% more expensive than in August last year.

According to Statistics Estonia, in February 2022, the total production of industrial enterprises increased by 1.7% at constant prices compared to February 2021. Output increased by 4.7% in manufacturing but decreased by 11.8% in mining and by 16.6% in energy production.

“In 1994, the life expectancy of Estonian residents was 66.5 years, whereas by 2024 it had increased by 13 years and reached 79.5 years. In both Latvia and Lithuania, life expectancy has increased by about nine years in the same 30-year period. Life expectancy is currently 77.6 years in Lithuania and 75.6 years in Latvia,” explained Eveli Voolens, the social statistics team lead at Statistics Estonia. She added that Latvia has one of the lowest life expectancies in Europe. On the other hand, in Finland, life expectancy was already 76.7 years in 1994 and has now increased by 4.9 years to 81.6

According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2023, the total production of industrial enterprises decreased by 7.3% at constant prices compared with January 2022. Output fell in all three sectors – by 14.2% in electricity production, by 6.3% in manufacturing and by 2.9% in mining.
