29% of people in Estonia are estimated to be affiliated with a religion. This figure has remained unchanged over the last three population censuses. However, the proportion of people who do not feel an affiliation to any religion has increased – from 54% in 2011 to 58% in 2021. The most prevalent religion in Estonia is Orthodox Christianity.

According to Statistics Estonia, an estimated 80% of the population aged 20–64 participated in adult education in the previous year*. Participation in adult education is higher among women, younger age groups, people with higher educational attainment, and native speakers of Estonian. Self-development has become considerably more popular among 50–64-year-olds. At the same time, the results indicate that two out of five adults would have liked to study more.

“Last year, the average number of museum visits per person in Estonia was 1.9. The highest museum attendance was seen in Saare and Lääne counties, where there were respectively 4.1 and 3.9 museum visits per person. In Tallinn, the city with the most museums, the average number of visits per person stood at 2.9. Museum attendance was lowest in Rapla county (0.3), with modest figures observed also in Valga (0.7) and Viljandi (0.8) counties,” said Erik Lest, analyst at Statistics Estonia. According to Statistics Estonia, in 2018, the labour force participation rate was 71.9%, the employment rate was 68.1% and the unemployment rate was 5.4%. The number of long‑term unemployed was the lowest of the last 20 years.

Statistics Estonia will start to publish each week the number of deaths of Estonian inhabitants in the previous week and the breakdown by sex and age group. The data are updated on Tuesdays for as long as it is necessary to assess the impact of the emergency situation.
