Statistics Estonia started to employ enumerators for the pilot Census of the 2011 Population and Housing Census (REL 2011). The total of 24 persons will be employed to enumerate the population.
Statistics Estonia: mobility has decreased during the emergency situation

The preliminary results of the mobility analyses prepared for the crisis commission show that the emergency situation has resulted in decreased mobility of people. For the mobility analysis, Statistics Estonia uses aggregate tables on the movement of mobile phone numbers prepared by Elisa, Tele2 and Telia. Real-time data of the clients of mobile operators were not used. It is not possible to analyse the movement patterns of individuals on the basis of the anonymous data. Statistics Estonia will publish more detailed results on April 8.
Record yield of rape seed was harvested last year

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, the cereal production was 879,000 tons in 2009, which was 2% more than in the previous year. The yield of rape and turnip rape seed was the largest of the last decade — 135,700 tons.

Census data show that an estimated 76% of Estonia’s population speak a foreign language. While 10 years ago the most widely spoken foreign language in Estonia was Russian, today it is English. Estonian is spoken by 84% of the population: 67% speak it as a mother tongue and 17% as a foreign language.
Statistics Estonia extends the e-census by 24 hours

Statistics Estonia lengthens the opportunity to participate in the e-census by 24 hours due to a big interest of the population in the e-census. People can participate online in the Population Census until 23:59 on 1 February.
Enumerators’ visits will be postponed for four days

Statistics Estonia will postpone the interview census for four days, during which the enumerators are visiting those residents who did not participate in the e-census. The enumerators will start visiting homes next Monday, on 20 February.
