According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2022, the consumer price index changed by -0.1% compared to December 2021 and by 11.3% compared to January 2021. Goods were 9.0% and services 16.0% more expensive than in January last year.

In the population census online test survey, which started at the end of last year, Statistics Estonia received answers about 828 persons living at 410 addresses. Interviewers started working on 20 January and they will contact by phone the people who live at the addresses in the survey sample but who did not respond to the questionnaire online.

Data from Statistics Estonia show that the most popular online services used by the population in Estonia are banking and email. Compared with 2023, the number of social media users has increased – up by 5.7% in 2024.

Krista Vaikmets, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that wage growth slowed down in 2025. “Last year, wages and salaries did not grow as fast as in previous years, but monthly gross wages still increased in all counties. The biggest increase was registered in Valga, Põlva and Rapla counties where gross wages were up by more than 6.5% last year,” she said. At the end of last year and beginning of this year, Statistics Estonia carried out the main rehearsal of the Population and Housing Census. 843 persons living at 422 addresses responded to the test survey online. Interviewers collected responses from 785 persons living at 410 addresses. The test survey response rate was 87.5% and the received feedback was generally positive.

Today, Statistics Estonia met with technology experts and analysts to present the technical solution of the Register-based Population and Housing Census and its opportunities.
