Starting today, 15 December, Statistics Estonia will send out information leaflets on the Population and Housing Census (PHC 2011) beginning on 31 December. The leaflets will be delivered to all mailboxes of private individuals in Estonia – with the help of Estonian Post, the leaflets will reach more than 650,000 mailboxes.

Today, on 29 December, Professor Emeritus Ene-Margit Tiit, the Head of Methodology of the 2011 Population and Housing Census, presents her latest book “Eesti rahvastik. Viis põlvkonda ja kümme loendust” (The Estonian Population: Five Generations and Ten Censuses). The presentation starts at 13:00 at the Rahva Raamat bookstore in the Viru Keskus shopping centre.

According to Statistics Estonia, in October, exports of goods increased by 18% and imports by 32% year on year. Trade growth was driven primarily by the increased exports and imports of mineral products, wood and articles of wood, and base metals and articles of base metal.

Jane Leppmets, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that exports of goods increased in September and in the third quarter overall. “Although re-exports fell by 1% in September, the rise in total exports was driven by the 4% increase in exports of goods of Estonian origin. The share of goods of Estonian origin in total exports grew by one percentage point year on year, reaching 64%” added Leppmets. There was a significant rise in trade with non-EU countries. According to Statistics Estonia, in May 2024, Estonia’s exports of goods decreased by 6% and imports by 13% compared with May 2023. Exports of goods amounted to nearly €1.6 billion and imports to almost €1.7 billion at current prices. The trade deficit was €144 million, which is €170 million less than in May last year.
