Monday, 28 February, marked the end of the second stage of the Population and Housing Census where data were collected from people living at the addresses included in the mandatory sample. The survey component of the census has ended, but data collection from registers continues until July, to ensure that all residents of Estonia are counted.

Helga Laurmaa, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that 133,800 foreign and 117,500 domestic tourists were accommodated in Estonia in April 2025. The number of foreign tourists has shown considerable growth over the last year but has not yet fully recovered from the slump a few years ago. “Compared with April 2024, the number of foreign tourists increased by 16%. The Population and Housing Census, which started at the end of last year, continues on a smaller scale in February. Throughout the month, enumerators are contacting the people who did not respond to the e-census but live at mandatory sample addresses.

Most Estonian residents intend to participate in the Population and Housing Census, which begins at the end of the year. 71% of them prefer completing the census questionnaire online, as revealed by a recent survey of Kantar Emor.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the second quarter of 2022, the Dwelling Price Index increased by 8% compared with the first quarter of 2022 and by 27.4% compared with the second quarter of 2021.
