According to preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2008 the total production of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and in foreign countries amounted to 35 billion kroons, which is 12% less than a year earlier.

In Estonia the construction activities increased 4%, but in foreign countries the construction volumes decreased nearly by a third.

Kaia Oras, a leading expert at Statistics Estonia, explained that the growth in demand for environmental goods and services has been due to both increased awareness of environmental problems as well as higher environmental and energy saving requirements, especially in construction. “The rapid growth in energy-efficient new construction and reconstruction of buildings has a huge impact. Together, these generated €1.5 billion in output,” Oras added. Robert Müürsepp, the national accounts team lead at Statistics Estonia, said that there was modest economic growth in the second quarter of 2025. The last time that the GDP grew was in the second quarter of last year. “About half of economic activities contributed positively to the GDP, with the biggest contribution coming from the energy sector where value added grew by 43%. The analyst noted that while the unemployment rate in the second quarter (7.8%) was slightly higher than in last year’s second quarter (7.6%), it was 0.8 percentage points lower than in the first quarter of 2025. “The unemployment rate for men (8.4%) was higher than that for women (7.2%). There were a total of 59,200 unemployed persons in the second quarter, which is 5,000 fewer than in the previous quarter
