Helga Laurmaa, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that nearly 1.86 million foreign tourists and nearly 1.76 million domestic tourists were accommodated in Estonia in 2024. “Compared with 2023, there were 11% more foreign tourists, while the number of domestic tourists remained at the same level. If we compare last year’s figures to 2019, which was the pre-pandemic record year, the number of accommodated domestic tourists has increased by over 200,000 but, at the same time, the number of foreign tourists has decreased by almost 400,000,” noted Laurmaa. According to Statistics Estonia, in the 3rd quarter of 2019, the Dwelling Price Index changed by 8.1% compared to the 3rd quarter of 2018 and by 2.4% compared to the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Statistics Estonia will decide at the end of this year whether the 2021 Population and Housing Census will be register-based. The decision will be made based on the results and quality of the ongoing second trial census.

According to Statistics Estonia, in February, the consumer price index increased by 0.6% compared with January and by 17.6% compared with February 2022. Goods were 17.2% and services 18.5% more expensive than in February last year.

According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the consumer price index in July 2020 was 0.0% compared to June 2020 and -0.9% compared to July 2019. Goods were 0.2% and services 2.0% cheaper.

Johanna Linda Pihlak, analyst at Statistics Estonia, pointed out that the decline in the volume of retail trade turnover in November was most affected by grocery stores, as their turnover volume decreased by 4% year on year. “The turnover volume of stores selling manufactured goods, however, continued to grow in November, increasing by 2% compared with the same period last year,” Pihlak noted. Today, President Kersti Kaljulaid visited Statistics Estonia to learn about the opportunities to use big data and experimental statistics to produce official statistics and improve the physical and social environment of Estonian people.

At the end of last year and beginning of this year, Statistics Estonia carried out the main rehearsal of the Population and Housing Census. 843 persons living at 422 addresses responded to the test survey online. Interviewers collected responses from 785 persons living at 410 addresses. The test survey response rate was 87.5% and the received feedback was generally positive.
