Number of people living in absolute poverty rose by two and a half times

According to Statistics Estonia, 22.5% of Estonia’s population lived at risk of poverty and 3.5% in absolute poverty in 2022. Compared with 2021, the share of people living at risk of poverty decreased by 0.3 percentage points and the share of people living in absolute poverty increased by 2.1 percentage points.

Information leaflets on the census will be sent to every household

Starting today, 15 December, Statistics Estonia will send out information leaflets on the Population and Housing Census (PHC 2011) beginning on 31 December. The leaflets will be delivered to all mailboxes of private individuals in Estonia – with the help of Estonian Post, the leaflets will reach more than 650,000 mailboxes.

Since 1996 the Statistical Office conducts reputation surveys and user surveys. The survey is conducted at least once a year, the existing as well as potential consumers are interviewed. The aims of user surveys are: to find out the reputation of the Statistical Office among consumers, to find out the need for statistical information, to study the consumers’ preferences in using various statistical products, to get the necessary information for production development. Construction prices started to rise in the fourth quarter

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2020, the construction price index increased by 0.4% compared to the average of 2019. In the fourth quarter of 2020, compared to the third quarter, the construction price index rose by 0.4%, and compared to the fourth quarter of 2019, fell by 0.1%.

A team of Estonian students ranked first in an international competition

In the international phase of the European Statistics competition, students had to make a video using official statistics to introduce their country. In the senior age group, the winner was team Radiaator from Hugo Treffner Gymnasium. The team members were Toomas Roosma, Kertu Liisa Lepik and Paul Erik Olli, supervised by Kerli Orav-Puurand.

Conscious and purposeful data collection for producing official statistics started in Estonia 101 years ago. The virtual exhibition 100 Years of Estonian Statistics concludes the year of the 100th anniversary of Statistics Estonia by taking the viewers on a discovery trip from the first official data on the population of Estonia to the classified statistics of the Soviet Union.
