Ülo Paulus, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the increase in the construction price index in 2024, compared with the average of 2023, was primarily due to wage growth, which accounted for 65% of the total index rise. “In 2024, the construction price index rose by 1.6%. Labour force was 6.3% more expensive and the cost of using building machines went up by 1.7%, while the cost of building materials decreased by 1.1%,” noted Paulus. Main events in the history of Estonian statistics 2024 Statistics Estonia focuses on reducing the administrative burden to save time for respondents. As a result , Estonia becomes the first EU country where enterprises engaged in foreign trade no longer have to report arrivals data, which decreases the reporting burden by a third, on average. Tea Vassiljeva, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that, in the first quarter, the labour market showed no signs of major changes in any direction. “There were 52,200 unemployed people in the first quarter, up by 5,100 from the fourth quarter of last year. This number is still significantly lower than in the first quarter of last year, when the number of unemployed people was very high,” noted Vassiljeva. The unemployment rate is the share of the unemployed in the labour force. The unemployment rate was 7.1% in the first quarter, which is 0.7 percentage points higher than in the last quarter

Viis põlvkonda ja kümme loendust” (The Estonian Population: Five Generations and Ten Censuses). The presentation starts at 13:00 at the Rahva Raamat bookstore in the Viru Keskus shopping centre.

According to Statistics Estonia, in June, the consumer price index increased by 2.7% compared to May, and by 21.9% compared to June 2021. Goods were 17.9% and services 29.7% more expensive than in June last year.

Robert Müürsepp, team lead of national accounts at Statistics Estonia, said that, compared with the previous quarter, the economy was stable. “Compared with the second quarter of 2024, the seasonally and working-day adjusted GDP was up by 0.1%,” noted Müürsepp. According to Eurostat , the EU economy showed slightly faster growth in the third quarter, as the increase in GDP was 0.9% year on year.
