According to the Farm Structure Survey conducted by Statistics Estonia, the number of agricultural holdings in Estonia has decreased by 6%, i.e. by 700, in three years. The average size of agricultural area has risen to 91 hectares, which is one of the highest values in the European Union (EU) after Czechia and Slovakia.

Johanna Linda Pihlak, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the biggest increase was registered in enterprises engaged in the retail sale of automotive fuel, where turnover volume increased by 14% last year. “The volume of turnover was up by 4% in stores selling manufactured goods but decreased by 4% in grocery stores,” added Pihlak. According to Statistics Estonia, in 2018, life expectancy at birth was 73.9 years for males and 82.4 years for females. Life expectancy has increased for both sexes, slightly more for males. Men are expected to live disability-free for 52.8 and women for 55.6 years. Just a year ago, disability-free life expectancy for males was two years longer and for females over three years longer.

According to Statistics Estonia, the preliminary estimate of the population of Estonia as at 1 January 2019 was 1,323,820, which is 4,690 persons more than at the same time a year ago.

Riin Kadarik, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that manufacturing output declined in March, similarly to February. “The decline was mainly due to the 4.1% decrease in the manufacture of food products. According to preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2022, the gross hourly earnings of female employees were 17.7% smaller than the earnings of male employees. The gender pay gap increased by 2.8 percentage points year on year.

“In the third quarter, the total number of vacant and occupied posts was a little under 604,000. Monday, 28 February, marked the end of the second stage of the Population and Housing Census where data were collected from people living at the addresses included in the mandatory sample. The survey component of the census has ended, but data collection from registers continues until July, to ensure that all residents of Estonia are counted.
