HICP flash estimate: prices up by 0.1% in May
According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in May 2025, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), which includes the expenditures of tourists in Estonia, increased by 0.1% compared with April. Compared with May last year, the index rose by 4.6%.
How healthy are the people of Estonia?
Starting on 1 May, residents of Estonia will receive invitations to participate in the Estonian Health Interview Survey, which aims to assess the health status of the population, factors influencing it, and the use of health services. The survey covers the entire population of Estonia aged 15 and older.

According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in April 2025, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) increased by 1.2% compared with March and by 4.4% compared with April last year.
GDP flash estimate: economy grew by 1.2% in Q1
According to Statistics Estonia’s preliminary estimate, in the first quarter of 2025, the gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 1.2% compared with the first quarter of last year.
Retail trade volume up by 2% in May
According to Statistics Estonia, in May 2025, the turnover of retail trade enterprises was €924 million. Compared with May last year, the volume of retail trade turnover increased by 2%.
Higher prices of manufacture of wood and wood products had the biggest impact on the producer price index in May
The producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, increased by 0.2% in May 2025 compared with April and by 0.5% compared with May last year.
Dwelling price index up by 3% in the first quarter
According to Statistics Estonia, in the first quarter of 2025, the dwelling price index increased by 3% compared with the previous quarter and by 4.6% compared with the first quarter of 2024.
In the first quarter, the number of bus passengers grew the most on urban lines
According to Statistics Estonia, 49.9 million passengers used transport services provided by Estonian enterprises in the first quarter of 2025, which is 2% less than in the same period last year. Buses carried 41.6 million and trains 1.9 million passengers. Compared with the first quarter of 2024, bus use increased by 4%, while passenger train use remained unchanged. In the first quarter, the number of bus passengers on urban lines rose by 6% compared with the same quarter last year.
eSTAT is replaced by a new self-service environment
Starting from 12 June, data can be submitted to Statistics Estonia in the new self-service environment at uuringud.stat.ee. To make data submission as easy and convenient as possible, all questionnaires will be updated in the new environment. Currently, only some of the questionnaires have been updated, however, the goal is to update all enterprise questionnaires by the end of 2026.
The number of accommodated tourists was up by 7% in April year on year
According to Statistics Estonia, accommodation establishments served 251,000 tourists in April 2025, which is 7% more than in the same month last year. There were 16% more foreign tourists. The number of accommodated domestic tourists did not change significantly year on year.
Growth in foreign trade slowed down in April: exports were up by 3% and imports by 1%
According to Statistics Estonia, in April 2025, Estonia’s exports of goods grew by 3% and imports by 1%. Exports of goods amounted to about 1.6 billion and imports to nearly 1.9 billion euros at current prices. The trade deficit was 332 million euros, which is 13 million less than in April last year.
In the first quarter, the number of job vacancies decreased by 4.9% year on year
According to Statistics Estonia, in the first quarter of 2025, there were 9,130 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions, and organisations of Estonia. This is 4.9% less than in the same quarter last year. In the first quarter, 5,633 persons left their job at the initiative of the employer.
In May, the consumer price index rose by 0.1% compared with April
According to Statistics Estonia, in May, the consumer price index increased by 0.1% compared with April and by 4.5% compared with May 2024. Goods were 1.9% and services 8.8% more expensive than in May last year.
Industrial production grew by 4% in April
According to Statistics Estonia, in April 2025, the total production of industrial enterprises increased by 4% at constant prices compared with April 2024. Among the three main sectors, output increased by 4.4% in manufacturing and by 0.6% in energy production but decreased by 2.1% in mining.

Trade in services with non-EU countries increased the most in the first quarter
According to Statistics Estonia and Eesti Pank, in the first quarter of 2025, Estonia’s exports of services grew by 5% and imports by 11%. Exports of services amounted to over €3 billion and imports to nearly €2.5 billion at current prices. The balance of foreign trade in services was in surplus by €548 million, which is €98 million less than in the first quarter of 2024.
