Statistics Estonia’s survey “Information technology in enterprises” shows that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) by Estonian enterprises is steadily increasing. The use of data analytics is also growing.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2018, the share of internet users among 16–74-year-olds reached 89%, which is 1 percentage point more than a year ago. The share of internet users who ordered accommodation and transport services from private persons increased by 4 and 3 percentage points, respectively.

Sigrid Saagpakk, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that, in the first quarter of 2025, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were the highest in Tallinn (2,384 euros) and in Harju (2,263 euros) and Tartu (2,023 euros) counties. “Compared with the first quarter of last year, the biggest increase in wages was seen in Tartu (7.2%) and Ida-Viru (6.9%) counties. Johanna Linda Pihlak, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the turnover volume of retail trade enterprises started to decline in May, after a period of growth since the beginning of the year. “This was due to stores selling manufactured goods where the volume of turnover was down by 5% year on year. Statistics Estonia prepared an analysis for the Estonian Education and Youth Authority on the economic impact of international students working in Estonia. It appeared that during the academic year 2019/2020, international students paid 10 million euros in income and social tax in Estonia and international graduates more than 3 million euros.

At the beginning of September, foreign experts will visit Statistics Estonia to evaluate compliance with the quality requirements of the European Union statistical office Eurostat and the European Statistics Code of Practice.

In the energy sector, the volume of electricity production (in megawatt-hours) decreased by 19.9% and the production of heat by 7.2% in July.
