According to Statistics Estonia, in the fourth quarter of 2023, the gross domestic product (GDP) decreased by 2.7% compared with the same period of 2022. The GDP at current prices was 9.9 billion euros in the fourth quarter. In 2023 as a whole, Estonia’s GDP decreased by 3% and amounted to 37.7 billion euros at current prices.

Johanna Linda Pihlak, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the volume of turnover was unchanged in December year on year but started to increase in January. “The rise in retail trade volume in January was mostly due to enterprises engaged in the retail sale of automotive fuel, as their turnover volume rose by 4% compared with January 2025. “In the third quarter, overall labour market indicators improved compared with both the third quarter of last year and the second quarter of this year,” stated Tea Vassiljeva, analyst at Statistics Estonia. She added that there were a total of 54,200 unemployed persons in the third quarter, which is 5,000 fewer than in the second quarter and 2,100 fewer than in the third quarter of last year. The Cultural Participation Survey conducted by Statistics Estonia reveals that over half a million people in Estonia went to the cinema at least once last year. Almost the same number of people attended a concert. Overall, 79% of residents aged 15 and over participated in a cultural event in 2023.

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, the total turnover of retail trade enterprises in 2021 was 8.9 billion euros. Compared to 2020, turnover increased by 12% at constant prices.
