HICP flash estimate: prices up by 1.2% in April

According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in April 2025, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) increased by 1.2% compared with March and by 4.4% compared with April last year.

GDP flash estimate: economy grew by 1.2% in Q1

According to Statistics Estonia’s preliminary estimate, in the first quarter of 2025, the gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 1.2% compared with the first quarter of last year.

Estonia produced 189.5 million eggs last year, one in two eggs eaten is locally produced

According to Statistics Estonia, 189.5 million eggs were produced in Estonia in 2024, which is 6% more than the year before. The average annual egg production was 138 eggs per person. Including imported eggs, 16.2 kg or 259 eggs per person were consumed during the year.

Estonia produces 71% of the meat consumed here

According to Statistics Estonia, 76,500 tonnes of meat were produced in Estonia in 2024, which is 1% more than the year before. The average annual meat production was 56 kg per person. Including imported meat, a total of 78 kg of meat per person were consumed during the year. 71% of the meat consumed in Estonia in 2024 was locally produced.

In 2018, rapid economic growth continued in Estonia

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2018, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Estonia increased 3.9% compared to 2017. For the third consecutive year the economic growth in Estonia was faster than 3%. In the 4th quarter of 2018, the Estonian economy increased by 4.2% compared to the 4th quarter of 2017.

The producer price index increased in January

According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2019, the change in the producer price index of industrial output was 0.6% compared to December 2018 and 0.3% compared to January 2018.

Profit of the business sector increased in 2018

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2018, the total profit of the business sector was 2.9 billion euros, which is 4% more than the year before.

In 2018, construction volume increased

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2018, the total production of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and in foreign countries amounted to three billion euros, which was 18% more than in 2017. Taking into account only Estonian construction market, construction volume increased 21%.

Labour market indicators have improved year-on-year

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2018, the labour force participation rate was 71.9%, the employment rate was 68.1% and the unemployment rate was 5.4%. The number of long‑term unemployed was the lowest of the last 20 years.

Last year, trade increased

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2018, the exports of goods increased by 12% and imports by 10% compared to 2017. The exports and imports of mineral products had the greatest impact on trade growth in 2018.

In 2018, the number of tourists in accommodation establishments increased

According to Statistics Estonia, 3.6 million domestic and foreign tourists stayed in the accommodation establishments of Estonia in 2018, i.e. 1% more than in 2017. The number of domestic tourists increased and the number of foreign tourists decreased.

Consumer price index rose in January

According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2019 compared to December 2018, the change of the consumer price index was –0.2% and compared to January of the previous year, 2.7%.

In 2018, the volume of industrial production increased

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2018, the production of industrial enterprises increased by 4% compared to the previous year. Production rose in manufacturing and energy, but decreased in mining.

In December, the turnover of retail trade enterprises stayed at previous year’s level

According to Statistics Estonia, in December 2018, compared to December 2017, the turnover of retail trade enterprises remained at the same level at constant prices.

Milk production increased year-on-year

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, the production of milk amounted to 807,500 tonnes in 2018, which is 2% more than the year before. The number of dairy cows decreased by the end of the year, but the average milk yield per cow increased.

Cereal yield decreased by a third

According to Statistics Estonia, the average yield of cereals was 2,625 kilograms per hectare in 2018. This is a third less than in 2017.
