Thursday, 3 November is the last day one can apply for the enumerator’s post at the Population and Housing Census starting at the end of the year. For conducting the Population Census, Statistics Estonia recruits 2,000 enumerators as total.

Statistics Estonia finished the last Pilot Census of the 2011 Population and Housing Census, where during 11 days the conduct of the whole Census was tested. Over 300 employees of Statistics Estonia and volunteers participated in the test.

According to Statistics Estonia, today, on 16 September at 9.00 a.m. a job competition will be opened for recruiting 132 supervisors of enumerators for the 2011 Population and Housing Census.

Starting today, 15 December, Statistics Estonia will send out information leaflets on the Population and Housing Census (PHC 2011) beginning on 31 December. The leaflets will be delivered to all mailboxes of private individuals in Estonia – with the help of Estonian Post, the leaflets will reach more than 650,000 mailboxes.

The enumerators will visit people in the Population and Housing Census starting at the end of the year only during the period 16.02 – 31.03.2012 and present their employment certificate with a photo issued by Statistics Estonia. Today, on 16 November, the geographic information systems (GIS) and geography day is held at the National Library of Estonia from 10:00 to 17:00. Among other things, visitors can see the map applications created for the Population and Housing Census which begins at the end of this year.

For summer 2012 it will be clear how big the real population of Estonia is and the emigration trends from the country during the last decade, spoke Professor Ene-Margit Tiit today, on 4 February in the university of the dignified of the University of Tartu while introducing the 2011 Population and Housing Census.

Starting from today, the persons interested in working for the 2011 Population and Housing Census can register on the website of Statistics Estonia, so that they could be contacted when the job competition has been announced. Large-scale recruitment competitions will be announced in autumn.

Today, on 6 July a meeting was held between Statistics Estonia and respondents where the main topics were the importance of data collected for producing official statistics, steps taken to reduce the administrative burden of enterprises, and penalty payments.
