Census results show that 243 different mother tongues are spoken in Estonia. Estonian is spoken as a mother tongue by 67% and as a foreign language by 17% of the population. Therefore, a total of 84% of the population speaks Estonian.

In the energy sector, the volume of electricity production (in megawatt-hours) decreased by 19.9% and the production of heat by 7.2% in July. According to Statistics Estonia*, 93.2% of households in Estonia have an internet connection at home. The number of households with an internet connection has increased by 13,000 compared with the previous year, when there were 533,300 such households. There are also more users of e-commerce.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the academic year 2020/2021, international students and graduates in Estonia paid more than ever before in labour taxes: a total of 16 million euros. At the same time, the number of international students was smaller, while the number of international graduates continued to rise. International students and graduates were most likely to work in information and communication as well as in education. Compared to local students, they worked more often in start-up enterprises.

Helga Laurmaa, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that 133,800 foreign and 117,500 domestic tourists were accommodated in Estonia in April 2025. The number of foreign tourists has shown considerable growth over the last year but has not yet fully recovered from the slump a few years ago. “Compared with April 2024, the number of foreign tourists increased by 16%. It is still lower than in April 2019, the last peak for this month,” said Laurmaa. “The number of accommodated domestic tourists remained similar to April last year but it was actually 11% bigger than in April 2019,” she noted
