In the 1st quarter, the number of job vacancies increased

According to Statistics Estonia, there were about 8,300 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia in the 1st quarter of 2016. The number of job vacancies increased by 25% compared to the previous quarter and by 14% compared to the 1st quarter of 2015.

According to Statistics Estonia’s projection, if the current demographic trends continue, the population of Estonia will decrease by 125,000 in the next roughly 30 years due to negative natural increase and negative net migration. Thus, the projected population of Estonia in 2040 will be 1,195,000.

Construction volumes decreased in the 3rd quarter

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 3rd quarter of 2015 compared to the same quarter of the previous year, the total production of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and foreign countries decreased 5%. If only the Estonian construction market is taken into account, the construction volumes decreased 10%.
No major changes in the labour market

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2016, the unemployment rate was 6.8%, the employment rate 65.6% and the labour force participation rate 70.4%. Within a year, 8,300 additional people entered the labour market, which mainly results from the decrease in the number of inactive persons. Compared to 2015, the number of inactive people in the labour market has decreased by 9,700 persons.
In April, the number of accommodated tourists stayed on the level of the previous year

According to Statistics Estonia, 209,400 tourists used the services of accommodation establishments in April 2015. The number of foreign tourists decreased and the number of domestic tourists increased.
This year, the European Social Survey focuses on age discrimination and family formation topics

October marked the beginning of the European Social Survey 2018, organised by the University of Tartu and Statistics Estonia. The survey is conducted in 30 European countries and focuses on such topics as age discrimination, family formation and having children. In Estonia, the survey covers 2,000 persons, who are going to be visited by Statistics Estonia’s interviewers.
