Production of full-length films hit record in Estonia last year

According to Statistics Estonia, 46 full-length films were released in 2012 when Estonian film celebrated its 100th birthday. 13 of these were full-length feature films and 33 were full-length documentaries.

Exports and imports of goods fell significantly in July

According to Statistics Estonia, Estonia’s exports of goods in July amounted to 1.3 billion and imports to 1.6 billion euros. Compared with July 2022, exports of goods decreased by 26% and imports by 20% at current prices. The trade deficit in July was 385 million euros, which is 42 million euros more than in the same month last year.

Jane Leppmets, a foreign trade analyst at Statistics Estonia, noted that growth in foreign trade in services was most affected by travel services and other business services. “In the third quarter, exports of services to EU countries increased by 8% and imports from EU countries by 4%. According to Statistics Estonia, in August, 331,000 tourists stayed in Estonian accommodation establishments. Their total number of nights spent was 591,000. Compared to August 2019, the number of tourists dropped by a third.

According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2022, Estonia’s exports of goods increased by 35% and imports by 36% compared to January 2021. Trade growth was significantly boosted by the increased exports and imports and higher prices of mineral fuels and electricity.

Population census: the share of people of foreign origin who consider themselves ethnic Estonians has grown

Data from the register-based population and housing census of 2021 reveal that 72.5% of Estonia’s population is made up of native people, i.e. persons with at least one parent and grandparent born in Estonia. At the time of the previous census, the share of the native populace was 75.3%, which means that the proportion of natives in the population has decreased by 2.8 percentage points, while the share of the foreign-origin population who consider themselves ethnic Estonians has increased.
