Jane Leppmets, foreign trade analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the most significant changes in April concerned extra-EU trade. “Exports to EU countries were up by 8% and imports from the EU fell by 1%. In trade with non-EU countries, exports declined by 10% while imports grew by 16%. Year on year, there were decreased exports from Estonia to the United States, Russia and Singapore, and increased imports from Turkey and Switzerland,” explained Leppmets. According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2018, the total production of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and in foreign countries amounted to three billion euros, which was 18% more than in 2017. Taking into account only Estonian construction market, construction volume increased 21%.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2020, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 1,448 euros, which is 2.9% higher than the year before. It has been ten years since the annual growth in wages and salaries was so modest. Since 2011, the annual growth rate has steadily been over 5% and has even risen above 7% in several years.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2016, the unemployment rate was 6.8%, the employment rate 65.6% and the labour force participation rate 70.4%. Within a year, 8,300 additional people entered the labour market, which mainly results from the decrease in the number of inactive persons. Compared to 2015, the number of inactive people in the labour market has decreased by 9,700 persons.

According to Statistics Estonia, 21.7% of the Estonian population lived at risk of poverty and 2.4% lived in absolute poverty in 2018. Compared to 2017, the share of people at risk of poverty decreased by 0.2 percentage points and the share of those living in absolute poverty by 0.3 percentage points.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2015, the production of electricity totalled 10.4 terawatt-hours, which is approximately 17% less than in the previous year. Electricity production from renewable sources increased 3% compared to 2014.
